In the OT, justice was in the form of an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. God showed what justice means. The violent passages are all about God executing justice, never doing something evil. Jesus showed a higher justice by saying; “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. It is not that God changed his mind, but only that justice can have various levels, the highest one being self-sacrifice to a very literal sense, to which he eventually proved himself by dying on the cross. So these persons in the OT deserved to die just like you and me also, but salvation is know possible in Christ and we are to forgive each other. This is the message.
